The Tuesday after (the U.S.’s) Thanksgiving is popularly known as “giving Tuesday” (#givingTuesday) a day to support causes and non-profits and all the good stuff in the world rather than giving more money to the billionaire narcissists who keep trying to ruin it.
So this is just a quick post to remind folks that in 2023 I’m doing the AIDS/LifeCycle ride. The ALC is an annual event where thousands of people ride their bikes from San Francisco to Los Angeles to raise money to end AIDS — specifically, we raise money for the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the Los Angeles LGBT Center.
Why am I doing this? It’s something I’ve wanted to do for years but never had the courage, always putting it off or making excuses. Earlier this year, my brother died which made me realize how precious and short life is. Seize the day and all that. So here I go, getting myself in shape to do something utterly insane (ride a bike for 545 miles over the course of seven days!) but for an amazing cause.
Your donations are put to immediate use. It’s not that I need to raise money and then no one uses that money until the race in June. If you donate today, that money will go directly to people who are living with HIV/AIDS. A donation as small as $10, $50, or even $100 will be put to immediate use buying condoms, N-95 masks, HIV screening tests, and more. If you already donated, donate again! And then donate again in the new year so you can take the tax credit two years in a row!
